The Bottom Line

If an active social calendar is your number one priority, start your tour list with these five: Sun City Lincoln Hills for sheer depth, Sun City Roseville for a club culture that never slows down, Trilogy at Bickford Ranch for a polished new social scene, Four Seasons at The Ranch for value-plus-activity, and Liberty Rio Vista for a club community with a Delta twist. These are our personal picks from years of visits, and they are a great place to begin.

After years of touring Northern California 55+ communities, Gary and Rutsell keep coming back to five places where the social calendar is genuinely full: dozens of clubs, weekly events, and residents who show up. This is their personal list, chosen qualitatively from the communities they know best, and it is the perfect starting point for buyers whose happiest retirement looks like a full calendar.

The Top 5, In Our Order

1 Sun City Lincoln Hills

The depth champion. With two lodge campuses and thousands of residents, the club list here is the deepest in the region, and there is an event on the calendar almost every evening. If you cannot find your people here, they may not exist.

2 Sun City Roseville

The club-culture classic. Roseville's residents built a famously active social scene around Timber Creek Lodge, with clubs, cards, sports, and dining groups that have run for decades. It is the community where new residents say they got busy within a month.

3 Trilogy at Bickford Ranch

The polished newcomer. Trilogy communities build their social program in from day one, and Bickford's wellness classes, dining events, and themed nights fill fast. It is the new-construction community with the most ambitious calendar we have seen recently.

4 Four Seasons at The Ranch

The value-plus-activity pick. The Ranch's clubhouse stays busy with a resident-driven calendar that punches well above the community's price point. It is the place buyers often discover by accident and then cannot leave.

5 Liberty Rio Vista

The Delta club community. Liberty built its social scene around the clubhouse and pool with a calendar that leans into the river-town lifestyle, and the smaller scale means you know your neighbors by name within the first season.

What We Look For in a Social Calendar

  • Depth: a long club list covering sports, arts, cards, dining, faith, and volunteering.
  • Participation: a calendar is only real if residents show up; we look for full rooms, not printed schedules.
  • Variety: big events for everyone plus small groups for the quiet side of the spectrum.

Frequently Asked Questions

How did you choose these five communities?

We chose them from our own tours and client visits across Northern California, looking at the depth of the club list, the variety of weekly events, and how many residents actually participate. These are the five where the calendar is genuinely full, not just printed.

Do I need to be outgoing to enjoy a 55+ social calendar?

Not at all. The best communities offer everything from large events to small clubs and quiet interest groups, so you can be as social as you like. The point is that the opportunities are there when you want them.

Are these the only communities with active calendars?

No. Many other Northern California 55+ communities have wonderful social scenes. This list is our personal starting point, the five we recommend buyers visit first when an active calendar is the priority.
